SLOW DÉCOR FOR AN INTENTIONAL LIFESTYLE.
There’s something about old French faïence that makes a table feel more special—pieces like this Gien ravier plate, with its delicate green transferware pattern, carry the kind of history that can’t be replicated. Originally made as a small serving dish for appetizers or side dishes, it’s a simple yet elegant piece of everyday French dining culture.
A Plate with a Story
Made by Faïencerie de Gien, one of France’s most celebrated pottery houses since 1821, this ravier plate belongs to the "Annam" pattern line, named after the historic region of Vietnam that was part of French Indochina. The Terre de Fer (ironstone) stamp places its production in the late 19th to early 20th century (c. 1875–1920)—a period when Gien was producing some of its most sought-after designs.
The maker’s mark on the underside features the crowned fortress emblem used by Gien during this time, along with the inscription "Porcelaines Opaques de Gien – Terre de Fer – Annam", confirming its authenticity.
