A 19th century, French copper skimmer. These were mostly used in the making of preserves, for skimming the scum which forms on the top of the pan. This example is made from a very heavy gauge of copper and dates from c.1880. The end of the handle is turned, resembling a shepherd’s crook, so that the skimmer can hang when not in use. It is in excellent condition.
This piece is 49 cm L with a 13 cm D. Heavy, solid copper.
