shop SUSTAINABLY
SLOW DÉCOR FOR AN INTENTIONAL LIFESTYLE.
A Pair for the Botanical Collector
A rare and beautiful find: two antique volumes from the Wild Flowers series, published by SPCK in the late 19th to early 20th century. These are the First Series and Second Series editions—still together after all these years. Bound in richly hued teal cloth with gilt lettering and delicate black botanical embossing, they’re the kind of books you leave out on the table, because hiding them away on a shelf would be a crime.
Inside the Pages
Each book offers a glimpse into a gentler era of British naturalism, with full-colour lithograph illustrations paired with wonderfully descriptive entries. Think: Corn Blue-Bottle, Common Centaury, and all the countryside blooms you’d expect to meet on a slow walk through the hedgerows. It’s not just a field guide—it’s a love letter to the flora of Britain.
Condition Notes:
Both books are in very good antique condition, with tight bindings and clean pages. Some expected age-related wear to the covers and spine edges (see photos), but nothing that detracts from their charm. The gold detail still gleams, and the illustrations remain vibrant.
A Collector’s Favourite Because:
These books strike the perfect balance between art and education. Whether you’re a gardener, a collector of antique natural history, or simply enchanted by the poetry of wildflowers, this set brings a quiet sense of wonder to any room.
Dimensions:
Each book approx. 6" H x 4.5" W
A beautiful set that's hard to let go.
