SLOW DÉCOR FOR AN INTENTIONAL LIFESTYLE.
A piece as charming as it is storied—this shallow decorative box was produced to commemorate the cinquantenaire (50th anniversary) of the French purveyor Jungmann & Cie, established in 1874. Likely gifted or sold as a keepsake, it’s a beautiful example of early 20th-century Parisian packaging and design.
The lid is a feast of florals—lush, hand-painted-style blooms in earthy reds, golds and apricots—intertwined with birds and botanicals, all set against a rich black background with a narrow gilt border. Flip it over and you’ll find a mirror nestled in the base, softly foxed with age, the kind of silvering collectors crave. On the underside of the lid, a second botanical design appears, this time in terracotta tones, stamped with:
“Jungmann & Cie, Fourreurs à Paris, 1874–1924, Cinquantenaire.”
A celebration of craftsmanship and longevity from one of the great Parisian furriers of the Belle Époque.
Whether styled atop a dressing table, tucked into a bookcase or layered into a maximalist vignette, this box adds a subtle whisper of French history. For the collector who believes even the smallest objects should hold a story.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with wear to the corners and light foxing on the mirror.
Dimensions: approx. 9.5" x 6"
Found in the Parisian markets.
