I love a basket, especially a French basket. Why? Mise en place - everything in it's place. There are dozens of styled baskets in France, each with a specific purpose. There was much conversation on the original purpose of this basket. I adored the tight weaving, solid structure and use of bamboo at the lip, looped through. This basket will be a show piece on any table.

So, what do you think it's for? The shallowness to me indicates drying - as in, a basket where nuts would dry out after harvested. It makes a perfect bread basket, especially for rolls. The depth would also allow for the perfect fruit basket!
